What Brain Train actually trains

Eight games, seven skills — most games lead one skill, and two share Memory. Nothing here claims to measure your IQ or treat anything; it's what each game is actually built to exercise, and which one leads it.

Memory

Holding information and updating it under load — two different jobs, split across two games. Echo never lets a snapshot settle: the mark keeps moving, so you're always comparing against what changed most recently. Lattice is the opposite motion — a pattern shows, disappears, and you rebuild it from what's left in mind.

Focus

Ignoring a distraction that's fighting for the same attention as the thing you actually need. Inkblind is built on the Stroop effect — the word says one colour, the ink is another, and you answer from the channel that isn't automatic.

Logic

Working a small rule under time pressure rather than solving it once and relaxing. Sequence asks you to tap numbers back into order before the clock runs out — the rule never changes, but doing it fast and clean is the whole test.

Agility

Cognitive flexibility, in plainer words: learning a rule well enough to act on it fast, then dropping it the instant it flips. Switchback's whole mechanic is that flip — the reflex that just started working is exactly the one you have to unlearn.

Math

Fast numeric comparison, not arithmetic homework. Tally Rush flashes two values and asks for the bigger one, again and again, faster than you can consciously calculate — closer to a reflex than a worksheet.

Spatial

Mental rotation — deciding whether two shapes are the same object turned in space, or a mirror image that only looks like it. Turnstile is that decision, made over and over as the shapes get less forgiving.

Speed

Visual processing speed — how much your eyes can actually take in in a single glance, not how fast you can react to something already in view. Wideye is built on the useful-field-of-view task researchers have used to study this for decades, and its own vertical: no other game here trains it.

None of these skills is scored in isolation forever — Brain Train tracks all seven and builds each day's plan around whichever ones need the reps, not a fixed rotation. See how the daily plan works →
